Best Ever Garlic Chicken

My husband doesn’t like garlic much. We all know that anyway garlic has a very strong taste, but apart from that, many people love GARLIC. They add it immensely in their dishes. And fresh garlic taste is unbeatable. We have tried garlic chicken in many restaurants, but somehow it never satisfied our taste buds. It would be way too garlicky, or no garlic at all. I was usually searching for chicken gravy recipes and came across this recipe. I made it for my husband’s lunch. And I couldn’t believe that it turned out amazing, which was my husband’s and his colleagues review. The double garlic in it and the ‘tadka’ (tempering) does all the magic.

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 large red onions, chopped

95g garlic and ginger paste

2 large beef tomatoes, chopped

1 teaspoon hot chilli powder

1 good pinch salt

2 free range chicken breast fillets

4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1 teaspoon garam masala

1 teaspoon ground cumin

2 finger chillies, chopped

5 to 6 curry leaves

1 large handful fresh coriander

DIRECTIONS

Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a wok or heavy bottomed pan and add the onions. Fry on a high heat until they start to burn, about 8 minutes. Add the garlic and ginger paste and fry until the oil separates, then add the tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes. Add the chilli powder (use mild if you would prefer less heat) and a good pinch of salt followed by the chicken breast and cook and stir for 7 minutes or until the chicken is no longer pink in the centre. Remove from the heat and let rest. Warm the remaining oil in a separate pan over a medium heat. Add the chopped garlic, garam masala, ground cumin, chopped finger chillies and curry leaves and cook for several minutes and temper the oil until the garlic is golden brown, take care not to blacken the garlic. Pour the tempered oil and all ingredients into the cooked curry. Tear the coriander and scatter over the top. Serve immediately.

BEST POCKET-FRIENDLY PRIMERS

I’m not gonna lie, for sure these products aren’t as good as the drugstore primers ( I definitely wouldn’t compare with the high end brands ) but these are a really good option when you run out of your primer or you’d like to save some money for a while and go for something cheaper. I recently found a drugstore primer which suits my skin, but before that I was loyal to these products. And they don’t just work as a base, they work as a moisturizer too.

Here goes the list :-

1. NIVEA AFTERSHAVE BALM (SENSITIVE)

I know I know, it’s for men. But believe me ladies, this thing works wonders on your skin. It’s a very thin liquid and moisturizes amazingly. And not to forget, the smell is to die for. I love the aqua smell. I have very sensitive skin which reacts immediately to anything that doesn’t suit. But this balm was accepted happily. I have tried applying it on my eyebrows as well and the product lasts well. Just make sure to give it few minutes to be absorbed by your skin and you’re good to go. And it claims ‘NO BURNING’.

2. BIO OIL

I started using this product during my pregnancy for stretch marks. It helped me a lot to control my stretch marks and moisturize my skin. I searched online other uses of boi oil and I found that it can be used as a makeup base. I applied makeup and it blended so smoothly. No streaks. And it doesn’t give that oily look on your face. Makeup lasts for a good 3-4 hours. I wouldn’t recommend using it near your eye area as my eyes burn a little with the smell. So please be careful.

3. VASELINE (ALOE VERA)

The most inexpensive primer. What can vaseline not do? Vaseline is used in everything. It solves all your problems. And makeup is one of them. Applying a thin layer of Vaseline before using makeup gives you a smooth base to work on. It doesn’t clog the pores and can be used on the eye as well for eyeshadow. It works as an eyebrow gel and eyebrows stay put. Must have it all the time.

Do try these products and let me know if you like any of them in the comments below.

Makeup Wishlist no. 1

Hello

I have gone so deeply into makeup in this year, that I think about makeup for almost 12 hours in a day. The question is “what to buy next” ? I just can’t control myself when it comes to buying makeup. Though I am not a high end brand person, but I would still love to own some, soon! And there are so many brands out there. That whole table filled with makeup and palettes looks so gorgeous *dreaming*. Well let’s get back to reality. So there are a few makeup products that I have been craving since long. Like really long.

1. Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Palette

I was always so afraid to try shimmer eyeshadows as I have hooded eyes. And there are so many tips as well saying not to apply shimmer to hooded eyes. But I tried once and it changed the whole look. Matte is good, but it definitely doesn’t give the vibrant look. And this palette looks so beautiful especially the shimmer shades. I have used the rose gold palette and I love it. Best part is, you can create endless looks in such a small palette. I can’t wait to get my hands on this.

2. Tarte Shape tape concealer

Reminds me of those blueberry cheese tarts that a close friend of mine had made. How pretty are these concealers? If you want to hide those under eye bags, then this is it. It’s every makeup artists best friend. Bit pricey for the quantity but, I have to have it anyhow.

3. Morphe – Set 901 The Gilded Set

I love to own brushes. Especially eye brushes. I have used the real Techniques brushes only so far, and they are of amazing quality. But we all know that morphe is one of the best brands for its brushes. They have a brush set for everyone – beginners, pros, travelers, eye makeup lovers, extreme contouring and many more. This set is for all. I’ve heard from many reviewers that if you have this set, you don’t need any other brush. Seems to be true.

4. Fenty Beauty Foundation

If I had to rate this foundation without using it, I’d give it a 10/10 just for the packaging. That frosted, dreamy, elegant look! Marvelous. And marvelous are its reviews. Internet says – it’s medium – full coverage but very lightweight. Now isn’t that every girls wish? I wish I get it in my cart soon.

Let me know if you guys have used any of these products in the comment section below.

Mashed Potato Patties

Hello.

I think I’ve never thought so much about food until I had a child. He’s 16 months old and the biggest question is ‘what to make for lunch / dinner?’ And he is a picky eater (I shouldn’t be complaining). He likes what he likes. What he likes today is not going to be the same the next day. I have to make new varieties for him and thats when I came across this. I had never tried it before and wanted to see if B likes it. I did get a positive response and hopefully I will make it again.

This picture has not been clicked by me.

INGREDIENTS

2 cups mashed potatoes

¼ cup parmesan cheese

1 egg, whisked

7 Tbl. all-purpose flour, divided

butter or oil, for pan-searing

Coriander leaves (optional)

DIRECTIONS

Place mashed potatoes, cheese, egg, coriander leaves and 3 Tbl. flour in a bowl and stir to combine.

Take a scoop of the potato mixture and form into patties.*

Place the remaining 4 Tbl. of flour on a plate.

Lightly coat the potato patties in the flour.

Heat a thin layer of the oil or butter in a large saute pan over medium heat.

Cook the potato cakes for 3 minutes on each side for a total of 6 minutes.

Serve as is or with accompaniments.

Tip :- Make small patties to avoid them from breaking in the center.

Chicken Fajita Quesadillas-MUST TRY!

Recipe credits to – www.jocooks.com

Please do not blame me if your family loves this recipe and they frequently ask you to make it. Because this is one hell of a recipe. So simple but delicious and cheesy. I fell in love with it instantly. Hubby loved it too. You can modify it as per your taste and preferences and see what works out best.

Sorry but that picture is not clicked by me. I couldn’t click any pictures the day I had made it.

Ingredients

• 2 tbsp olive oil

• 2 tbsp fajita mix

• 3 chicken breasts boneless and skinless

• 1 red bell pepper

• 1 green bell pepper

• 2 onions

• 1 cup Tex Mex cheese or cheddar cheese

salsa

• sour cream

• 8 tortillas

• 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

1 Clean and chop up the onion into long strips. Slice the peppers into long strips. Clean and slice the chicken breasts into long strips and place in a bowl.

2 Add a tbsp of the fajita mix to the chicken breast and mix well.

3 In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of the olive oil and add the chicken to it. Cook the chicken for 5 to 10 minutes until it’s fully cooked and no longer pink, and it’s slightly charred, but not burned.

4 Remove chicken from skillet, and wipe the skillet clean.

5 Add another tbsp of olive oil to the skillet and heat it up. Add the onion and cook for a couple minutes until it’s slightly translucent. Add the peppers and the fajita mix and mix well. Cook for a couple more minutes so the peppers cook slightly. Add the chicken to the skillet, mix with peppers and onions and cook for a minute.

6 In a clean skillet, add a bit of the butter and melt. Add a tortilla and move it around until it’s buttery. Add a little bit of the chicken and onion mixture on top of the tortilla, and about 1/4 cup of cheese, depending on how you like it. Add another tortilla on top and pat it down.

7 Now flip it over and cook on the other side until the other side is nice and golden. Remove from skillet and cut into quarters. Repeat these steps with the remaining tortillas. Serve this with some sour cream and salsa.

My modifications –

• I had used yellow and red bell peppers

• Shredded the chicken

• I couldn’t find a fajita mix so I used cumin powder, black pepper powder and red chili powder and salt only. It turned out amazing.

• I didn’t make salsa or use sour cream. I used ‘U.S. Ranch’ by American Garden as dips and for base on the tortillas.

• I used mozzarella cheese.

• Add chopped green chilies if you want to spice it up a bit.

I hope you’ll like the recipe and do let me know how your family finds it in the comments below.

WINTER IS COMING

Hello all. Not sure if I’ve mentioned this earlier but I live in Kuwait. After the very long summer, it’s now time for winter. Winters are very chilly here where the temperature drops down to even 0 C. I know thats nothing compared to some parts of the world but yeah, thats how it is. Winters mean dry skin and flaky scalps. I suffer from eczema. I have a hard time moisturizing my skin in winter.  My best remedy is to dab on oil on my face, hands, legs, elbows. Just a little bit is enough. It cures almost everything. It has so many other uses apart from cooking especially beauty purposes. Below I am going to list all the uses of coconut oil that I have tried –

MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN

Use coconut oil in place of your daily moisturizer and feel the difference. Just use a few drops and see how you feel moisturized all day long. It can be mixed even with your daily moisturizer.

MOISTURIZING BATH

Add a teaspoon of coconut oil to feel relaxed and moisturized.

DIY FACE AND BODY SCRUB

The most inexpensive and efficient scrub is coconut oil mixed with sugar. Mix equal parts of sugar and coconut oil and use it to exfoliate your face and body to remove all those dead skin cells. Your skin will be so moisturized and smooth.

FOR BEAUTIFUL NAILS

Put just 2-3 drops of oil on your nails and see how beautiful they look. It even makes nails stronger and cuticles softer.

FIGHT FRIZZY HAIR

This one is a bit tricky to use. Just use a drop of oil and spread it in your hands as if applying hand lotion and then use the left over on your hair focusing on the ends and middle. I would recommend not to apply above that as it’ll look greasy.

BEST MAKEUP REMOVER

To be honest, I’ve used quite a few makeup removers so far but coconut oil is my favorite. And this is one of the best uses for me. Just take few drops of oil and rub it in your skin focusing on eyes. Just swipe it off with a cotton and see all the junk come off in seconds.

RELIEF FOR ECZEMA

Coconut oil is not at all harsh for eczema. It’s mild and moisturizing properties helps to reduce the itching, redness and flaky skin. Dab a few drops on the affected area.

Please comment below if you found this information helpful and have any other uses of coconut oil. Let me know if you would like to know uses of any other oil.

10 Life Saving Beauty Hacks Every Girl Must Follow

Life is all about hacks. I’m that person who always googles to find some or the other hack. I love to find good tips and share with others. Health and beauty is ruling this generation. It has evolved so much that you always tend to learn something new. Here are my beauty hacks that I have tried –

To avoid getting lipstick on your teeth, stick your finger wrapped with a tissue in your mouth and pull it out. Your finger will get the excess product, not your teeth.

Cover up dark circles by applying concealer in a triangle shape. Never put dots under the eye and blend it as it’ll make your dark circles more prominent.

Colour your entire lid with white eyeliner to make eyeshadow colours POP. This tip is so helpful and so handy for eyeshadow. You don’t even need a primer.

Get rid of split ends by twisting locks of hair and snipping the ones you see sticking out.

Use a business card to pull your lid up so you can get the mascara right to the base of your lashes. You’ll love me for this tip. It saves you so much clean up on the lid.

Got bags? Use an orange concealer under your foundation to cancel out the blue. Make sure not to put too much orange. Just a little bit goes a long way.

Use a white base coat, not a clear one, to get more vibrant nails. This tip works great for eyeshadows too as mentioned above.

To get a much more professional eyeshadow look, use Mac paint pot in Soft Ochre underneath. It is a bit pricey but every bit is worth it.

Know where to apply your perfume so it lasts all day. Behind the ear, base of the throat, inside the wrist, inside elbow and behind the knee.

Apply foundation over your lips and apply two coats of lipstick with a 2 minutes gap between each coat for your lipstick to last all day.

If you have any other hacks or tips to share, please do comment below.

The Secret Behind All The Glitter On My Eyes

I had always wondered how people manage to make their eyeshadows pop and last for so long. I have hooded eyes, and I love eye makeup. I have always been so fascinated by eye liners, shadows, glitter, smokey eyes. And I tried so many techniques to make my eyeshadow look bright and long lasting. But within an hour, it would be all creased and there would be absolutely nothing on my eye. I had heard a lot about the Urban Decay Prime Potion and MAC Paint Pots. And I’m no makeup artist who uses makeup on a daily basis. So I didn’t want to invest in something bit pricey. So what do I do? Find a dupe!! Eventually, what I found was this small tube from the brand ‘Milani’ as a primer and NYX Eyeshadow base in shade ‘White’ And I read many positive reviews about it, so I thought to give it a try.

So here’s my review about these products – the Milani Eye Primer is absolutely stunning. It is so long lasting, I cannot believe that I didn’t know about it and I struggled so much. It makes my eyeliner, eye shadow and even my concealer lasts for up to 8-10 hours. My eyeshadow goes on really smooth, it doesn’t crease at all. What you need to do is, blend it well and let it sit for at least 2 minutes before applying your base. It should be completely dry. I would never ever switch to another product. This is so amazing.

Now the NYX Eyeshadow base in white – it made my eyeshadow pop like I had some high end product on my eyes. Even a bit of eyeshadow was so bright. The tricky part is it’s a bit difficult to blend. You need to be real quick and then set it with any powder or eyeshadow that matches your skin.

So these are my two favorite products for my eyes. You beauties should definitely try it out and let me know how you find it.

Lose Double Chin in 10 days

I have always wanted exercises that work fast. In a period of 10-15 days gives you the motivation to try it as the result would be seen in a short time. I never feel like trying those 2 or 3 month course. More than that is out of question. So I was just going through some posts and this post by slickweightloss.com caught my eye for some reason. Upon reading, the remedies and exercises seemed interesting and possible. I’m definitely going to try this for 10 days. And really hope I lose my double chin !!

HOME REMEDIES

1) Chew Gum

Exercise your facial muscles and keep them toned by chewing a gum, preferably a sugar-free gum, several times a day over the next 10 days. Chewing Gums also help keep your teeth and gums, so win-win.

2) Massage your chin with Cocoa Butter

Applied daily, cocoa butter will help improve the elasticity of your skin that will reduce double chin considerably.

Direction: Just heat a tablespoon of cocoa butter and gently massage it on your chin and nearby neck area for about 15 minutes. Try this daily either before taking a bath or going to bed for the next 10 days.

3) Massage with Wheat Germ Oil

Another effective way to fight double chin is by massaging the chin and neck with wheat germ oil, which is rich in Vitamin E that helps in nourishing and tightening the skin.

Direction: Apply the oil in an upwards motion from bottom of the neck to the chin for 15 to 20 minutes over the next 10 days before going to bed.

4) Egg White-Face Mask

If you find it difficult to purchase cocoa butter or wheat germ oil at your local grocery store, you may use a more easily accessible item for massaging your double chin. Egg white-masks, made from egg whites, milk, lemon, and honey, can be used a great way to tighten you skin muscles.

Direction: Carefully separate the egg white from 2 to 3 eggs and mix it with a tablespoon of milk, honey, and lemon juice. Now massage your chin and neck area slowly with the mixture for about a few minutes until the mask starts to dry.

Leave the dry mask for an hour and then wash it with lukewarm water. Do this once every day for the next 10 days for long-lasting results.

5) Increase the intake of Vitamin E

In addition to these simple home-made recipes, you should definitely increase your intake of Vitamin E, which is vital in maintaining the health of your skin and preventing it from sagging.

Vitamin E can be found in green leafy vegetables, dairy products, legumes, nuts and seeds, beans, and liver. An abundance of Vitamin E can also be found in Green Tea.

You may consider taking a daily vitamin E supplement as well, but consult with your doctor about proper dosage.

CHIN FIRMING EXERCISES

Besides the home-remedies and intake of Vitamin-E, another important aspect of your 10-day routine to reduce double chin is going to be facial exercises.

The exercises help in stretching and toning the skin and muscles around the chin and thus remove any signs of double chin.

1) Kiss the Sky

Tilt your head upwards and keep your eyes towards the sky or the ceiling if you’re inside. Now hold your lips as tight as possible as if you are trying to kiss the sky.

Hold yourself in the kissing position for about 15 seconds and repeat 20 times. This exercise stretches most of the facial muscles including your jaw, throat, and neck. Make sure you only use your lips during this exercise.

2) Chin Up

Chin up is a popular yoga asana. Pull your lower lip as high as possible by pushing out your lower jaw. You’ll feel a slight strain on your jaw and chin muscles as you push out your jaw.

Hold the lip and jaw in the position for 15 seconds and repeat 20 times. This exercise will not only help you lose your double chin but also give you a more prominent jaw line and high cheekbone structure to your face.

3) Hum and breathe

There are two parts to this exercise. First close your lips and make chewing motion using your lower jaw. Now hum and count your breath.

After 10 breaths stop to relax. In the second part, open your mouth and stick your tongue to the lower front teeth from front. Again hum and count for 10 breaths.

Repeat both parts 20 times. This exercise will give you an amazing jawline and reduce your double chin considerably.

4) Guppy

You can do this simple exercise during any time of the day.

Just suck in your cheeks and lips like a guppy or fish and try to smile.

Hold the position for 10 seconds or until you feel the burn in your cheeks and jaws. Repeat 20 times. This is one of the best and fastest ways to burn excess fat on the chin and face.

5) Neck Rotation

While standing, drop your chin forward to your chest and slowly rotate your head to the right.

Hold the position for five seconds. Now, gently rotate your head back so that your chin is to your chest.

Do the same to the left. Hold again for five seconds. Repeat this 15 times daily.

6) Chin Slap

This is one of the easiest face workouts. With the back of your hand, gently slap underneath your chin and gradually increase your speed until it starts hurting.

If it starts hurting, slow down but continue to slap your double chin for 30 seconds.

Repeat this exercise 10 times.

7) Smile

The best exercise however is to simply smile.

Smiling helps in stretching the muscles of your cheek and chin and loosens the fat surrounding it.

French Toast Roll-ups

Recipe inspired from – thebakermama.com

• 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

• 2 tablespoons brown sugar

• 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

• 2 large eggs

• ¼ cup milk

• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

• 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

• 8 slices soft white bread, crusts cut off

• 3 tablespoons butter, for saute pan

• maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

1 In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt 3 tablespoons butter until just melted. With a fork, stir in 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons brown sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon until a smooth spreadable mixture forms. Set aside.

(If using a small saute pan, use just 2 tablespoons butter and saute the roll-ups in two batches) Dip one roll at a time in the egg mixture and place in the saute pan. Allow roll ups to saute for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside. Remove to a work surface and sprinkle each roll up generously with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
