Drugstore Makeup Products Review

Hey guys!

To be honest, I hardly have any high-end brand makeup. I’m more of a drugstore makeup person because in Kuwait (where I’m residing currently), makeup is really expensive. The price of drugstore products is THREE times of what it is in US or UK. Or may be even more at times. For eg : any foundation which is for $6 in US is for almost $18 in Kuwait. I definitely love to have a lot of makeup but I don’t find it worth spending on makeup. I believe that drugstore brand products happen to provide us with equally good results, just like high-end brand products. Everything has a dupe, isn’t it? And if it doesn’t have a dupe, then BUY IT. However, if that’s the scene with drugstore brands, I cannot even discuss the prices of high-end makeup products.

My favourite drugstore brands are Maybelline, NYX, Milani, Essence, Loreal, LA Girl, E.L.F and many more brands from which I like few products. These brands have almost all the products which any high-end brand has and they are efficient. If they are not same as high-end brands, a little bit difference is acceptable. For the price, they are fabulous. I recently shopped some makeup in the Black Friday sale which I didn’t require but I needed, haha! I kept myself pretty controlled during that time, as I had a long list of what I wanted. Hence, narrowed it down to just these few products. And let me tell you, these brands are the best drugstore brands. Here are the reviews :

Maybelline Facestudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder, Translucent, 0.21 oz.“>1. MAYBELLINE MASTERFIX SETTING + LOOSE POWDER – Face baking has got so hyped up in the past few years. From a famous makeup artist to a beginner wants all their makeup set in place. I wanted to get a loose powder as I have a lot of creasing under my eyes after applying concealer. So I wanted a loose powder and I got my hands on this beauty. The packaging is so pretty and classy. This powder did a really good job to control the creasing. After around 4-5 hours a little creasing appeared but I guess it was not so noticeable. And it is pretty easy to blend with the makeup and gives a bright look. You can buy it Maybelline Facestudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder, Translucent, 0.21 oz.“>here.

2. E.L.F. LIP EXFOLIATION IN BROWN SUGAR – The winter was just killing my lips and I badly needed a lip scrub. So I gave this one a try and it is really good. The exfoliation beads are very mild for the lips and not harsh. Although little bigger beads would have been fine. It leaves the lips really soft and moisturised and tastes good. Haha ! You guys should give it a try.

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick, Touch of Spice, 0.15 oz.“>3. MAYBELLINE COLOR SENSATIONAL CREAMY MATTE LIPSTICK (TOUCH OF SPICE) – I love Maybelline products. And I heard a lot about these lipsticks and really wanted to get one. And I love the rosy pinks. So touch of spice seemed perfect to me. I yet have to try it out and see how it is. Buy it from Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick, Touch of Spice, 0.15 oz.“>here.

4. E.L.F BLUSH PALETTE (LIGHT) – I am not a blush kinda person. Somehow blush seems a little odd for me. I own only one blush and that is Milani Luminoso Blush. This one had some good reviews therefore, I thought to grab it. And well, it’s really nice. It has some amazing shades that can work with any skin tone. It is pigmented and can be applied as eyeshadow too.

Real Techniques Sculpting Brush 1 ea“>5. REAL TECHNIQUES SCULPTING BRUSH – I love the Real Techniques brushes. They are so soft. And I think the trick behind flawless makeup is brushes. I wanted a brush for contouring. This brush is pretty good for giving that defined sculpted look. Its soft, blends the well and leaves no lines. You can buy it Real Techniques Sculpting Brush 1 ea“>here.

EcoTools Eye Enhancing Duo Brush Set, Made with Recycled and Sustainable Materials, Cruelty Free Synthetic Taklon Bristles, Aluminum Ferrule, Recycled Packaging“>6. ECO TOOLS ENHANCING EYE SET – If you don’t know yet, let me tell you again, I LOVE EYE MAKEUP AND EYE BRUSHES. These brushes were too cute to not buy. And EcoTools has amazing quality brushes. And these were no exception. They blended my eyeshadow like a dream. Flawless is the word! Buy these brushes EcoTools Eye Enhancing Duo Brush Set, Made with Recycled and Sustainable Materials, Cruelty Free Synthetic Taklon Bristles, Aluminum Ferrule, Recycled Packaging“>here.

The Sad Truth About Lipsticks

I remember when I was just 10-12 years old, I had almost a dozen of lipsticks. My dad used to and still dislikes me applying any kind of makeup. I’m not really sure why, but I think he likes simplicity. Dark lipsticks, eyeshadows, full coverage foundations are a big NO-NO in front of him. He would always taunt me when I used to apply lipstick that “you’re eventually going to eat all of that lipstick”. I kind of ignored it and kept using lipsticks and he kept telling me.

Whenever I used to visit India, my cousins would go mad seeing my makeup. As I had come from abroad and had too much knowledge about makeup (as per them). They would always wander around me to see and use my makeup. They would ask me tons of questions about all the products and I felt proud to have some knowledge and be able to share it with them.

A few days back, I was just discussing about makeup with my sister in law and she read a post online claiming that ‘if a lipstick contains lead, it’ll change color when rubbed with gold’. I had heard about it when I was small and I remember trying it but forgot about the result. So she tried it out with her lipstick and we were shocked. I don’t know how true this statement is, but dude, can anyone explain me the change of color in some and no change in others. How would anyone explain that?

Left is original shade and right after rubbing with gold

MAC, NYX, WET N WILD changed colors but MILANI, LA SPLASH and MAYBELLINE were same.

I have many more lipsticks but I tried just these many to give an idea to the world. I’m not claiming that these lipsticks actually contain lead but all I’m guessing is, there might be something wrong with them.

I would like you all to try it with your lipsticks, especially the high end brands. And let me know the results.

Thanks for reading! 🤗

I’m not gonna lie, for sure these products aren’t as good as the drugstore primers ( I definitely wouldn’t compare with the high end brands ) but these are a really good option when you run out of your primer or you’d like to save some money for a while and go for something cheaper. I recently found a drugstore primer which suits my skin, but before that I was loyal to these products. And they don’t just work as a base, they work as a moisturizer too.

Here goes the list :-

I know I know, it’s for men. But believe me ladies, this thing works wonders on your skin. It’s a very thin liquid and moisturizes amazingly. And not to forget, the smell is to die for. I love the aqua smell. I have very sensitive skin which reacts immediately to anything that doesn’t suit. But this balm was accepted happily. I have tried applying it on my eyebrows as well and the product lasts well. Just make sure to give it few minutes to be absorbed by your skin and you’re good to go. And it claims ‘NO BURNING’.

I started using this product during my pregnancy for stretch marks. It helped me a lot to control my stretch marks and moisturize my skin. I searched online other uses of boi oil and I found that it can be used as a makeup base. I applied makeup and it blended so smoothly. No streaks. And it doesn’t give that oily look on your face. Makeup lasts for a good 3-4 hours. I wouldn’t recommend using it near your eye area as my eyes burn a little with the smell. So please be careful.

The most inexpensive primer. What can vaseline not do? Vaseline is used in everything. It solves all your problems. And makeup is one of them. Applying a thin layer of Vaseline before using makeup gives you a smooth base to work on. It doesn’t clog the pores and can be used on the eye as well for eyeshadow. It works as an eyebrow gel and eyebrows stay put. Must have it all the time.

Makeup Wishlist no. 1

I have gone so deeply into makeup in this year, that I think about makeup for almost 12 hours in a day. The question is “what to buy next” ? I just can’t control myself when it comes to buying makeup. Though I am not a high end brand person, but I would still love to own some, soon! And there are so many brands out there. That whole table filled with makeup and palettes looks so gorgeous *dreaming*. Well let’s get back to reality. So there are a few makeup products that I have been craving since long. Like really long.

1. Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Palette

I was always so afraid to try shimmer eyeshadows as I have hooded eyes. And there are so many tips as well saying not to apply shimmer to hooded eyes. But I tried once and it changed the whole look. Matte is good, but it definitely doesn’t give the vibrant look. And this palette looks so beautiful especially the shimmer shades. I have used the rose gold palette and I love it. Best part is, you can create endless looks in such a small palette. I can’t wait to get my hands on this.

2. Tarte Shape tape concealer

Reminds me of those blueberry cheese tarts that a close friend of mine had made. How pretty are these concealers? If you want to hide those under eye bags, then this is it. It’s every makeup artists best friend. Bit pricey for the quantity but, I have to have it anyhow.

3. Morphe – Set 901 The Gilded Set

I love to own brushes. Especially eye brushes. I have used the real Techniques brushes only so far, and they are of amazing quality. But we all know that morphe is one of the best brands for its brushes. They have a brush set for everyone – beginners, pros, travelers, eye makeup lovers, extreme contouring and many more. This set is for all. I’ve heard from many reviewers that if you have this set, you don’t need any other brush. Seems to be true.

4. Fenty Beauty Foundation

If I had to rate this foundation without using it, I’d give it a 10/10 just for the packaging. That frosted, dreamy, elegant look! Marvelous. And marvelous are its reviews. Internet says – it’s medium – full coverage but very lightweight. Now isn’t that every girls wish? I wish I get it in my cart soon.

10 Life Saving Beauty Hacks Every Girl Must Follow

Life is all about hacks. I’m that person who always googles to find some or the other hack. I love to find good tips and share with others. Health and beauty is ruling this generation. It has evolved so much that you always tend to learn something new. Here are my beauty hacks that I have tried –

To avoid getting lipstick on your teeth, stick your finger wrapped with a tissue in your mouth and pull it out. Your finger will get the excess product, not your teeth.

Cover up dark circles by applying concealer in a triangle shape. Never put dots under the eye and blend it as it’ll make your dark circles more prominent.

Colour your entire lid with white eyeliner to make eyeshadow colours POP. This tip is so helpful and so handy for eyeshadow. You don’t even need a primer.

Get rid of split ends by twisting locks of hair and snipping the ones you see sticking out.

Use a business card to pull your lid up so you can get the mascara right to the base of your lashes. You’ll love me for this tip. It saves you so much clean up on the lid.

Got bags? Use an orange concealer under your foundation to cancel out the blue. Make sure not to put too much orange. Just a little bit goes a long way.

Use a white base coat, not a clear one, to get more vibrant nails. This tip works great for eyeshadows too as mentioned above.

To get a much more professional eyeshadow look, use Mac paint pot in Soft Ochre underneath. It is a bit pricey but every bit is worth it.

Know where to apply your perfume so it lasts all day. Behind the ear, base of the throat, inside the wrist, inside elbow and behind the knee.

Apply foundation over your lips and apply two coats of lipstick with a 2 minutes gap between each coat for your lipstick to last all day.

The Secret Behind All The Glitter On My Eyes

I had always wondered how people manage to make their eyeshadows pop and last for so long. I have hooded eyes, and I love eye makeup. I have always been so fascinated by eye liners, shadows, glitter, smokey eyes. And I tried so many techniques to make my eyeshadow look bright and long lasting. But within an hour, it would be all creased and there would be absolutely nothing on my eye. I had heard a lot about the Urban Decay Prime Potion and MAC Paint Pots. And I’m no makeup artist who uses makeup on a daily basis. So I didn’t want to invest in something bit pricey. So what do I do? Find a dupe!! Eventually, what I found was this small tube from the brand ‘Milani’ as a primer and NYX Eyeshadow base in shade ‘White’ And I read many positive reviews about it, so I thought to give it a try.

So here’s my review about these products – the Milani Eye Primer is absolutely stunning. It is so long lasting, I cannot believe that I didn’t know about it and I struggled so much. It makes my eyeliner, eye shadow and even my concealer lasts for up to 8-10 hours. My eyeshadow goes on really smooth, it doesn’t crease at all. What you need to do is, blend it well and let it sit for at least 2 minutes before applying your base. It should be completely dry. I would never ever switch to another product. This is so amazing.

Now the NYX Eyeshadow base in white – it made my eyeshadow pop like I had some high end product on my eyes. Even a bit of eyeshadow was so bright. The tricky part is it’s a bit difficult to blend. You need to be real quick and then set it with any powder or eyeshadow that matches your skin.

So these are my two favorite products for my eyes. You beauties should definitely try it out and let me know how you find it.

Budget friendly primer for dry skin

So by now, most of you should be knowing that I am a victim of dry skin. I have suffered from dry skin for a very long time. In fact I have eczema and my son also inherited it. Sadly. But thankfully, I keep it at bay for both of us by taking lot of care. It is not easy trust me. Now I was not aware that keeping your skin moisturised 24×7 was the key to curing dry skin. And I used to have a hard time especially before applying makeup. Dry, flaky, cakey foundation is a big NO NO. So after I started moisturising my skin, I had to find a good primer. I didn’t want to invest in any high end brand, as it was more about trial and error. I did my research and found this drugstore primer and ordered it.

It is the E.L.F. Hydrating Face Primer. Well, all I can say about this primer is, it is fantastic. It is so good, blends your makeup amazingly. Goes on really smooth, without any creasing. A drugstore brand, easily available and pocket friendly too. The only thing is its a bit small in quantity but I guess for the price you’re paying, its worth it. It is priced at $6. Isn’t that amazing? Do grab it soon and let me know how you find it.
